Lily smiled as she jumped around. One of her muggle friends had brought a stereo outside but needed to go inside to do some homework. Instead of her friend having to drag it inside, Lily told her that she would watch it and play around with it. She giggled as she danced around to a song called Broken Heart by Motion City Soundtrack. She smiled and danced around, but when the song ended she breathed heavily and licked her lips.
She ran a hand through her hair and looked at the lake. How tempting it was to just run and jump into it. She giggled as she took off her skirt and top, of course she was wearing a bikini under, and ran and cannon-balled into the lake. She came up out of the water, running her hands through her wet hair. She smiled as the sun beamed down on her radiant face.

Stalker wasn't the choice word that James would choose to describe himself, he was merely love-sick. Anyone who couldn't see that had to be blind... Except for Lily. She had an excuse, that James forgave her for, he just didn't know what it was exactly. He was currently sitting in a tree, crouched so that his legs didn't dangle down. Yes, it was a rather uncomfortable position, but he hadn't intended to be sitting there for so long.
The Gryffindor Quidditch star had been sitting there, swinging his legs, when he saw Lily come out and start talking to her friend. He pulled his legs up so as not to be seen, thinking that she'd go back inside. Much to his surprise, she didn't. Instead, her friend did. And, so, here James was, watching Lily swim in the lake. Which really wasn't a good idea, by the way, but he didn't think now was the proper time to tell her...
He refrained from groaning as his calf muscles cramped yet again, wincing as he involuntarily leaned forward. And then, losing his balance, he toppled out of the tree and onto the ground, face-first. He put his hands out so as not to break his nose and then grumbled to himself, sitting up and looking at Lily with wide eyes. Oops. Suddenly falling out of a tree wasn't the worst thing that had happened to him... [/sub]

Lily heard a crash over by the stereo, which was still playing, but automatically started skipping. But she wasn't worried about the stereo, she was more worried about James Potter, who looked as if he could've hurt something. She got out of the water, not even putting her clothes back on, and rushed over to him. She kneeled down beside him and started looking at him all over. "Oh James! Are you alright?" she asked worriedly, looking at his legs and then his arms.
Lily didn't worry about the fact that she probably seemed like a mother at that point, but she was just worried. James was after all the Head boy, and if he was hurt he couldn't fulfill his duties right? Or was that just some excuse in Lily's mind that was covering up that she really didn't want him to be hurt because..it would make her very sad. She sighed as she stopped looking at him over, understanding that nothing was broken and he was fine.

James winced slightly, involuntarily lifting a hand to ruffle the back of his hair. "Er... yeah. I'm fine, thanks, Evans," he said, leaning back slightly as if bracing himself for an explosion. It was odd enough that she was worried about him, usually she just would have told him off for hurting the ground when he fell, but did she just call him James? Maybe it was a slip-up. But then when else did she call him James?
He frowned slightly, standing up and brushing himself off. He averted his eyes from Lily's figure, which he had previously learned was very nice, not feeling like being called a pervert. "Er... Thanks, I guess, Evans. Or is it Lily, now?" he added with a raised eyebrow. Okay, so maybe that was taking it a bit too far, but... there was a small chance that she'd tell him why she had called him that. Or she'd hex him into next year... but it was a risk he was willing to take. [/sub]

Lily noticed she had called him James. She sighed gently and bit her bottom lip, looking away. She gulped gently and could feel her heart racing. Here she was: herself and James alone and she couldn't do anything. She couldn't speak because her mouth was so dry, and even if she could, she couldn't tell him how she really felt. Could she? No, that would be rather silly.
She heard what he said and looked at him. He was being smart, again. Why couldn't he just act like a normal boy and ask her out! NO...that was way rash. And besides, he didn't feel like that towards her. She sighed as she bit her lip and shrugged. "It's whatever you'd like it to be," she said softly. She added a gentle smile then stood up quickly and grabbed her clothes. She began to put on her skirt as she now sat down on the slight hill before the lake, looking out to the reflection on the water. It was so awkward.

James stood, gazing at Lily for a moment and then sitting beside her. "What do you mean by that?" he asked her, his expression serious for once. His hazel eyes roved her face as he tried to find the meaning of her words. Sometimes he was a bit daft, sure, but this woman was just all-around confusing. He didn't understand how she could change so suddenly. If he had called her Lily a couple days before, she would have slapped him. And, as a matter of fact, she had... though a week is more than a couple days, so that's not exactly right.
He realized that she seemed nervous and felt guilty somehow, like it was his fault. Then again, looking around the lake, he noticed that there wasn't really anyone else outside. Which was odd. I mean, really, when was nobody outside? There was always someone... James cut his thoughts short and gazed at the lake as he waited for her response, whatever that may be. [/sub]

Lily looked at him as he sat beside her. And then he had asked the question he normally asked. What did she mean? She thought she had made it pretty clear that she really didn't care what he called her. But no, James had to look for a deeper meaning in everything that she said. So why couldn't he just figure out that she liked him? Ugh, it was making her angry inside..but that cute face of his surely made up for it.
Lily sighed as she looked away from him and looked to her other side. Her eyes seemed to remember the tears they had shed when she talked about this boy beside her with one of his best friends, Remus. She knew they wouldn't dare shed a tear in front of James, no not one single tear. No matter how hard she had to contain herself from showing any emotion of how she felt about him, she had to do it. "Well, I just mean that you can call me whatever you'd like," she spoke gently. Severus had called her a mudblood right? So why couldn't everyone else call her what they pleased too.

James frowned, brushing grim off of his robes as he thought about what she had said. Sure, it seemed obvious. But, still. He felt like that wasn't all of it. "So, I can call you Lily, then, Lily?" he asked, leaning forward slightly in an attempt to see her face. He wondered why she was turned away from him, but didn't question that. She probably didn't want to get in it, and she wouldn't tell him anyway.
He absentmindedly started plucking grass from the ground and dropping it, not at all bothered by his useless killing of innocent plants. Cold-hearted murderer that he was. He looked at Lily again, opening his mouth to say something and then closing it again. He didn't know how to act around her anymore. This whole year, everything had been different. Sure, she had been rather malicious to him as usual... until now. But, thing had changed. James had changed, and so had Lily.
He thought back to the past few months and realized that he hadn't asked her out once. He had thought about it several times, of course, but what was the use when she would just say no? He had to win her over first. But it obviously wasn't working. She was acting as distant as ever, even if it wasn't an angry act now... it seemed more sad.
The thought of Lily being sad made his eyes soften as they focused on her. "Are you alright?" he added slightly hesitantly. James wasn't exactly the person she'd want to talk about her problems to, but at least he tried. [/sub]

She gulped gently and smiled very slightly as she looked at the ground. She then turned around and looked into his eyes. His eyes were so gorgeous and he was so handsome. But of course she couldn't say that. She just wished he would ask her out or something. Or do something to make her see he liked her. She smiled gently and nodded after taking in a deep breath. "Yes, Lily is fine...James," she said and smiled. She realized the music was still playing but it was a new song. It went something like you have stolen my heart. What a song to play, huh?
She smiled and looked away, feeling as though she could just hug James and bury her head in his chest. His smell would be so wonderful to her nose, as if she longed to smell the scent of him. And his arms wrapped around her would make her feel oh so protected. But, however, it was only a mere dream. A dream that in her mind was like a fairty-tale that would not come true. She merely sighed and bit down on her lip, turning back around for the second time to look at him.
The question that came from his lips was unfamiliar to her, well at least from him anyway. She nodded and smiled as her eyes met his. "Yes, I'm fine," she said gently, giving a slight smile to her response.

James gazed at Lily for several moments, not sure if he should believe her or not. She didn't really seem fine, but that wasn't something he could say. Even if she wasn't feeling happy, it was probably because he was there. And that was definitely not something that James wanted to talk about. And so, he laid back, gazing up at the sky and glancing at Lily from time to time.
"I used to stare at the clouds like this all the time," he informed her, not that she'd really care. He just felt like talking, even if nobody was going to listen. "It's funny how we get so caught up in our lives that we never do the things we used to. I don't have time to, anyway," he added with a wistful expression. He resisted the urge to sigh, instead putting his arms behind his head and getting as comfortable as he could laying on the ground.
"Do you ever wish you could do all the things that you used to do, when you were little?" he asked, his eyes moving to her. He couldn't really see her face from his position, but that was alright. He was somehow comforted just by the fact that she was there, with him. Not that he could delude himself into thinking that she actually wanted his company, but still. It helped. [/sub]

She looked at him as he layed down and watched the clouds and smiled. She continued to sit down and finally put her shirt on, realizing that it was getting a little chilly with the frequent wind that came over the both of them. She wrapped her arms around her knees and stared out at the lake, occasionally glancing up at the clouds to see if James was really looking at a girl up there. But no girl; nobody was there.
She smiled softly and looked at him. She layed down on her side, facing him. She listened to his words and smiled. He wasn't ust a goof off, and she learned that as she looked at him watching the clouds. He enjoyed doing things he used to when he was little, which was something she could appreciate. She remembered when she and Petunia would lay out in the front lawn and stare at the clouds, then point out little animals in the sky. She remembered one time that she spotted a rare dragon that she had been taught about by her father in a wizard's story...but Petunia couldn't even see it because she didn't know what it was.
Coming from a muggle family who had no clue to what magic was about, really had its difficulties when she was little. She sighed at his question and just shrugged, not replying. She layed down on her back and closed her eyes, feeling the wind gently glide over her face and hit her hair softly. "Sometimes I do.." she whispered, finally, after realizing that she couldn't just be quiet and not answer his question. She couldn't be rude when he was finally not being a jerk.

James turned his head to look at Lily, chewing his lower lip and forcing himself to look away. She was so pretty that it hurt him to look at her, sometimes. Because, really, did he think she'd ever come around? It had been four years since he had first asked her out, and she still didn't like James. He didn't know what it was about himself that was so horrible. He could be arrogant, at times, yes. And he was also a bit of a prat... but, he had good things too. Was it so hard to see them?
He stared at the sky, not trying to make shapes out of the clouds but just watching them drift by. They were so carefree, being able to just float around forever, occasionally raining down on the pathetic humans below. Why couldn't everyone down here be carefree, forget their troubles and just live? James didn't think it would be that hard. Though, with the potential uprise of the "Dark Lord" looming in the distance he could understand why everyone was worried.
His gaze involuntarily strayed to Lily, his brow creasing with concern. What would happen to her? He had heard the rumors, that he was intent on creating a pureblood world. It was easy for James, who had not a drop of muggle blood in him. But what about Lily, who's loved ones were muggles? It's not like she had chosen to be born a witch with muggle parents. It wasn't her fault. Would she still have to die for it?
James' expression hardened at this. He couldn't imagine not having Lily around. Even if she hated him, even if she wished he had never been born, she was still here. He didn't want to change that, not for anything. "Lily..." he said softly, feeling a bit shy somehow. This was something he had wanted to ask her for a long time, though, and hadn't had a chance. He might not get another one. "Why am I so intolerable?" he asked, his voice a mere whisper to be carried by the wind where it willed. He was afraid of her reply. What if it was something that he couldn't change, that he couldn't make better? What if she just hated him because he was him. He couldn't change who he was, ever. He could morph himself into a better, nicer person. But he couldn't be anyone but James Potter. He didn't know how to be.
Maybe she wouldn't even hear him. [/sub]

Lily sighed gently as her thoughts filled with images of herself and James. Why was she so pathetic? A love-sick girl caught up in a guy who would never even see her as more than a friend. She sighed gently as she looked away from him. Her eyes couldn't bare to be dry and stare at him. She just wanted to be with him. She didn't think it was a crime, but apparently it was. Yes, it was true that he had asked her out four years ago..but they had both changed since then.
She liked him so much now that it hurt her. Lily just wished she could hug him and whisper in his ear how she felt about him. And their lips could meet after solemn and depressed years. She longed to press her lips against his precious ones at that moment, but she knew it was so not the time for it. The time now was for Lily to remain a quiet little Gryffindor that she was and just lay there. She had opened her eyes earlier to look at him, but now they closed once more for she needed to relax. Her head was turned to him, however, even if she couldn't see him. She breathed in and out silently and gave a small sigh.
She was carefree at the time, and didn't worry about anything. But then he spoke and it made her open her eyes behind the closed darkness of her eyelids. Her gentle eyes looked at him as he said her name very softly. "James..." she whispered gently after hearing his question. He sounded so sweet and so worried about it. But, he didn't know that he had nothing to worry about. Sure, she found him intolerable at times. But that didn't mean that she didn't like him, because Merlin knows that she really did.
"James you're not completlely intolerable," she said softly, looking at him. She was still laying there, looking at him with soft eyes. She licked her lips gently as she breathed a bit harder. "Just sometimes you joke around too much..." Lily spoke softly and turned on her other side. She could feel the tears burning in her eyes. "...and it hurts," she finished. She felt one, single tear hit her cheek and then watched it fall onto the grass. She sighed as she closed her eyes and bit her bottom lip. She swore she wouldn't do this.

James didn't know what to say. She looked so terribly sad at his question, worse than he'd ever seen her before. It wasn't often that Lily let her guard down, only once before had it been dropped around James... and it had only been for a couple of seconds. It was when Snape had called her a mudblood. She had looked so devastated, the fact that two syllables could upset someone so much something that few people could understand. James did. Or, to the best of his ability, anyway. The way he figured, it was like if one of his best mates told him that they hated him. But, worse. That he was worthless, not even good enough to be the filth on the bottom of their shoes. It would have been just like that for Lily. And that made him hate Snape even more.
He closed his eyes, patient for her response. The way she said his name made his eyes flicker open, and he was even more surprised to see that her expression had worsened. As she turned over, he felt almost... rejected. Like she couldn't look at him while she finished. He probably should have felt better, relieved that Lily didn't really truly hate him. But he couldn't.
He sat up, leaning over Lily and narrowing his eyes as he saw the telltale trail of a fallen tear. He lifted his hand and gently brushed his thumb over her cheek, biting his lip. "Did I hurt you?" he asked her softly, his head imperceptibly tilted to one side. Just the thought that he had hurt Lily made him more upset than he should. That hadn't ever been his intention. He just wanted to be with her. At first, sure, that's not what it was. But, it had grown into something completely different. He didn't just want to prove that he could have anyone he wanted. He didn't care about that at all, now. He just wanted Lily to feel the same way that he did. He wanted to be in love, and for once have the feeling be returned.
He tried to think back, to all the times that he had upset Lily. He couldn't remember all of them, there were so many. He had filed most of them away, because despite his facade, it had really hurt every single time she insulted him. Every time she told him that she hated him, that she didn't want to be near him. And he didn't want to face that. Still, he couldn't remember ever hurting her. Except for the time she had stood up for Snape. But, then, hadn't Snape hurt her? Not James. He didn't understand. Lily sighed as more tears fell from her brilliantly radiating eyes. The tension between the two of them was gone. And she felt like she didn't care anymore. She just wanted to be with him, and she just wanted to be in his arms forever. She wanted to be in love with him; wanting to go with these feelings of her heart and go with the flow. She wanted to do all of these things, but how would she ever know how he felt?
She felt him over her and after he brushed away her tears, she turned on her back to look up at him. She looked into his eyes and shook her head at his question. "You hurt me before...but not now.." she whispered gently. They were so close she could feel his warm breath upon her neck. She wanted to reach up and pull him down slightly on top of her, and just kiss him right then. They were so close that she could do it, probably without him noticing. But she wouldn't make the first move; that had been something she swore to herself she wouldn't do.
But she was so afraid he didn't like her back in the way she felt for him. She could hear the song, Remember to Breathe by Dashboard Confessional coming from the stereo as if it was on time. The song seemed to fit the mood between them, but she didn't pay much attention to it. She just looked up into his eyes as she licked her lips once more, before feeling another slow, icy tear hit her cheek. This was what she had been waiting for the whole time with James; one day that they would be alone and finally be so close and no goofing around. But she didn't think anything would happen between them. No matter how much she wanted things to work out between them in a romance-way, James could never fall for her. She was Lily Potter: Head Girl, Gryffindor, Seventh Year, and Mudblood.
